How to book a Madeira trail in SIMplifica, step by step

Since 2026 every official PR trail requires an online booking before you start, including visitors exempt from the fee. You cannot buy entry at the trailhead. This guide walks you through the SIMplifica booking, from account to QR code.

What to prepare before booking

Booking is mandatory on all 42 trails (39 in Madeira and 3 in Porto Santo), including visitors exempt from the fee. Entry cannot be bought on site.

Prepare: an e-mail address, a password of at least 10 characters, the details of all participants (you register the whole group) and a Visa or Mastercard. MB WAY and ATM payment are also available.

The whole procedure below: as of July 2026, confirm in SIMplifica. The government system changes its screens without notice.

Booking step by step

Step 1: open SIMplifica and register an account as Pessoa Singular (a private individual).

Step 2: enter your e-mail and a password of at least 10 characters.

Step 3: confirm the account with the code sent to your e-mail; the code is valid for 24 hours.

Step 4: go to Bilhética / Pagamento de Taxas.

Step 5: choose Percursos Pedestres.

Step 6: pick the trail, the date and a 30-minute slot; slots run from sunrise to sunset.

Step 7: add all participants by category; tourists select NO in the NIF field.

Step 8: pay by Visa or Mastercard, with MB WAY or at an ATM.

Step 9: the PDF ticket with a QR code arrives by e-mail. Save it offline with a screenshot of the code, as mountain coverage is poor.

Participant categories and the NIF field

A Visitor over 12 pays the standard rate. Children up to 12 and visitors with a disability of 60% or more use free categories, but you still register them as participants. Residents of the Autonomous Region of Madeira book with a Portuguese NIF and have guaranteed slots.

The NIF field is for residents; tourists select NO. Book the whole group in one go, so everyone shares one slot.

The ticket and QR checks on the trail

The ticket is a PDF with a QR code sent by e-mail. Nature Wardens scan it at the trail entrance and run random checks along the route.

A booking does not open a closed trail: check the IFCN status in our catalogue before you set out. Entering a closed trail risks a fine from €250 to €2500.
