PR trail fees and SIMplifica registration
Since 2026, access to the official PR trails managed by IFCN is paid for visitors. You pay online in the government SIMplifica system. Below are the rules, prices from our catalog and a step-by-step guide.
Who has to pay
The fee applies to visitors over 12 years old. Residents of the Autonomous Region of Madeira are exempt after registration. Children under 12 walk free.
The standard fee is €4.50 per trail; the exception is PR1 (Pico do Areeiro - Pico Ruivo), where the full route costs €10.50 and the section to Miradouro da Pedra Rija €4.50. Every trail in our catalog shows its current price and a booking link.
How to pay in SIMplifica, step by step
1) Open the SIMplifica service page (link below). 2) Pick the trail and hiking date. 3) Enter participant details and pay online by card. 4) Keep the confirmation (e-mail / QR code).
Best register the day before your hike. Mobile signal in the island's interior is weak, so keep the confirmation available offline (screenshot).
Checks on the trail
Fee checks happen on popular trails. You show the SIMplifica confirmation (QR/e-mail) and an ID. Hiking without payment may mean paying on the spot or a fine.
The fee does not replace checking the status: a closed trail stays closed regardless of your booking. IFCN statuses are on our catalog's home page.
Insurance: worth remembering
The EHIC card covers public healthcare in Portugal, but may not cover mountain rescue operations or medical transport. For exposed routes (PR1, Larano) consider travel insurance that includes rescue and mountain activities.
